Hand-Knotted Afghan Turkmen Wool Rug

$315.00

Celebrate traditional craftsmanship and bold tribal aesthetics with this hand-knotted Afghan wool rug, featuring a striking repeating Gul (octagon) design across a richly textured green field. Inspired by Turkmen and Ersari weaving traditions, the Gul motif—also known as the “elephant foot”—has long symbolized strength, unity, and heritage among Central Asian nomadic tribes. The rug is structured in a grid of large, colorful octagonal medallions, each containing a stylized floral or star-shaped rosette. Vivid accent colors like sky blue, saffron gold, crimson red, ivory, and burnt orange bring each motif to life. Between the rows of medallions, narrow horizontal bands filled with tiny rosettes offer visual rhythm and beautifully balance the boldness of the larger forms.

Framed by a diagonal zigzag border in red and black, the design is finished with hand-knotted fringe and a palette of natural vegetable dyes that enhance the rug’s rustic charm and enduring appeal.
